GASTEC at CRE (GaC)
c:sense provides independent, accredited services for the verification of CO2 emissions starting with clients operating under the UK Emissions Trading Scheme (UK ETS), the World’s first economy-wide GHG “cap and trade” scheme and then helping clients with the European Emissions Trading Scheme (EU-ETS) when it came into being.
Independent verification is an important final process in a raft of government legislation, aimed at the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Since scheme participants are invited to develop their own monitoring plans, it follows that anyone tasked with assessing annual emissions reports will need to be flexible, have a working knowledge of the particular industry, be technically adept at the monitoring/measuring/recording techniques used in data collection and, above all, be able to demonstrate impeccable credentials to underpin their independence. In order to meet these specific requirements GASTEC at CRE formed c:sense as a dedicated trading arm in 2005.
The importance of finding a practically minded verifier to work with cannot be under-estimated. Once verified by an accredited company, (c:sense is accredited by UKAS in the UK, INAB in Ireland), organisations are given the flexibility to meet emission reduction targets according to their own strategy. Naturally this strategy is fully compliant with the requirements of the legislation but, at the same time, it is designed to involve the least disruption to their business.
We like to think that the “c” in c:sense stands for “carbon” as well as “commercial” sense.
