Many companies and organisations feel that there is a need to create a “best practice” environmental awareness in their company. Some call it Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) others a Carbon Footprint and some create their own agenda for reducing energy and water usage and recycling waste wherever possible.
It is not always possible to define what is meant by “carbon footprint” or “zero carbon” and it is all too easy to be accused of “green-washing” over problem areas, putting the emphasis on high profile projects that look good but maybe achieve less in real terms.

It may be necessary to look at the whole life analysis of projects, rather than the short term apparent carbon gain, and it will certainly be necessary to get your staff and contractors to buy-in to what you aim to do.
