NVQ

GASTEC at CRE (GaC)

We are proud of our record of helping our young clients and those changing careers to find the optimum route to qualification. There are different ways of achieving this, but all require that you are working for a company to start the training programmes.

NVQ/SVQ 6012

To work legally as a gas service technician you need an NVQ/SVQ or equivalent qualification, and ACS and Gas Safe registration.

As a trainee gas service technician, you will work towards the City & Guilds NVQ/SVQ in Domestic Natural Gas Installation and Maintenance (6012). All units are mandatory and include:

Designing, commissioning and de-commissioning natural gas systems

Installing, servicing and maintaining domestic natural gas systems

Applying safety checks to all gas related work through testing and monitoring.

Accredited Certification Scheme (ACS)

ACS is a nationally recognised scheme which demonstrates competency to work safely with gas systems and equipment. It is also a requirement for Gas Safe registration.

Gas service technicians must complete ACS safety assessments relating to their specific areas of work or the types of appliance they service. The City & Guilds 6012 award is the only NVQ/SVQ that has ACS built into its training programme.
