GASTEC at CRE (GaC)
GaC has a modest training and assessment facility accredited by NIC Certification. Oil Technicians are able to complete their assessments for installation [including efficiency], pressure-jet burners and tanks.
GaC continues to maintain the highest standards by quickly adapting to changes in OFTEC assessments and in furthering its commitment to support installers.
From September, its training material related to OFTEC Assessment 101, 105e and 600a has been developed to complement recent changes to the content of the 105e module. Previously, the 105e module covered oil tank installation, but this has now been taken out and replaced with a module on energy efficiency bringing it more in line with building regulations. Installers who fit oil tanks will now have to take the 600a, which covers oil tank installation. The 101 course remains as before, the course that covers commissioning and servicing.
The OFTEC certification route at GaC comprises of two elements:-
- The training section will prepare you for your OFTEC 105E, 101 and 600A assessments by providing up-to-date information on legislation and training in both the practical and theoretical aspects of oil installation.
- The assessment section consists of a number of multiple choice exams and a practical assessment. During this practical assessment, an OFTEC approved assessor will observe you undertaking practical activities on appliances and equipment.
As with most competency assessments, the training element is not compulsory. You could choose to go for assessment only. In practice, only an extremely small number of candidates take this route and we actively recommend that you attend training immediately in advance of your assessment.
