GASTEC at CRE (GaC)
There are now more routes into the field of installing solid fuelled appliances:-
1. Traditional HETAS acceptance criteria
- HETAS course (wet/dry as appropriate)
- Evidence of experience in solid fuel
- Meets all other registration criteria
- Pass pre-registration assessment
These courses are designed for experienced solid fuel installers able to satisfy HETAS registration criteria without further testing or examination.
2. Conversion from other fuels with CORGI, or OFTEC core skills
- Evidence of OFTEC or CORGI membership/registration
- HETAS course (2 or 3 day as appropriate)
- Half day refresher
- 1 day assessment both practical and theory
Designed for experienced gas/oil installers who need to demonstrate an understanding of safety requirements for solid fuel but cannot offer a detailed history of solid fuel and/or wood installations.
2a. Installers who have a history of solid fuel experience but are unable to offer demonstrable evidence that satisfies HETAS for registration purposes
- Description (summary CV) of solid fuel/wood fired installation work and experience
- HETAS course (2 or 3 day as appropriate)
- Half day refresher
- 1 day assessment both practical and theory
3. New trader, but with association with the heating trade as retailer etc for 12 months
- Full CV including work experience of past three years, including some evidence of manual dexterity with
hand tools
- HETAS course
- 3 month period during which the operative must have made 4 installations under supervision of a
HETAS approved installer or under Building control
- Check of reference regarding above installations
- Half day refresher
- 1 day assessment both practical and theory
- Meets the other requirements for HETAS registration
